Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park
I stumbled across this site last year when searching for a place to holiday in that was near the mountains of Snowdonia but also gave quick access to my favourite beaches at Criccieth and Newborough and what a find it was!
The site itself is located about 4 miles from Caernarfon which has all the facilities you need. Supermarket, filling station, pharmacy etc plus a castle that deserves a visit. Heading the other way you are in Beddgelert 8 miles later and a bit further is Betws y Coed. The route to Beddgelert passes the start of the Snowdon Ranger path.
To get to the beaches at Criccieth is a 30 min drive but free parking, great snorkelling and a castle for a back drop make it worthwhile. A similar time scale will get you to the sandy beach of Newborough on Anglesey.
There are numerous other attractions within 30mins of the site – mountains, forests, beaches, lakes, and places to visit such as the nearby copper mines make this a perfect location for all.
The site itself is fantastic. Spacious, well laid out with clean, well maintained facilities. The staff are excellent, always friendly and willing to help out.
The site is split into separate fields so even in August it didn’t seem busy. The pitches are very generous in size allowing a large tent and car to be located on it with room to spare to avoid tripping over yours or your neighbours guylines.
The shower blocks are warm, clean, and free. Enough said.
On site there is a good shop and a wood fired pizza van for the nights when you can’t be bothered to cook.
Noise? Not an issue. The only night there was a bit of noise, and we are talking about a group of adults sat communally having a chat at 22:30hrs and the wardens did a walk around and asked them to turn the volume down! No other issues turned up.
We camped away from the river that ran next to the site and I am glad of that fact. I stood near it one day to watch my kids play at the fantastic play park but was ambushed by midges so didn’t hang around. Having previously experienced a week in the lakes with midges for company my only stipulation on my next visit would be not to camp in that area.
There is a train track that runs through the site, but what a track it is. It’s one of the steam train lines so during the day you are treated to a steam train bumbling by. The kids loved it and ran to wave every time. It didn’t run through the night so peace and tranquillity was restored for bedtime.
I can’t recommend this site enough. I am going back again this year. They have a sister site a little bit closer to Caernarfon and slightly North which I will go and have a look at. If it’s half as good as Bryn Gloch then I will book a holiday there for another time. I can see my family visiting Bryn Gloch for a good few years as it is, for us, the perfect location in Wales for seeing all the North of the country has to offer.
